Season 2023: In Flux
The trio in the name of our festival goes hand in hand with three tried and tested formats that characterise the annual summer festival programme.
A first taster of the festival season is provided by “A Little Midsummer Night’s Dream”, an opera for children. The traditional International Opera Course at Beeskow Castle presents its opera collage: “Opera in the Barn”. The festive opera gala can be experienced at three locations this year. Thanks to its outstanding quality, last year’s ensemble production of the Handel oratorio “The Triumph of Time and Truth” produced by the Neuzelle Monastery Foundation can be enjoyed yet again this year and will even be touring the Oder-Spree district.
We round off this year’s festival with two further productions. The Brandenburg Summer Concerts will present the winners of the International Singing Competition of the Chamber Opera Castle Rheinsberg accompanied by the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (Oder) at Storkow Castle. Bad Saarow (Gut Eibenhof) is home to the Art of Singing master class, which this year, celebrates ten years of excellence in vocal teaching. The students will present their work in a joyous final concert.
AN OPERA FOR CHILDREN
A Little Midsummer Night’s Dream
An opera for all children aged seven to ninety seven in our very own version of Shakespeare’s classic with music of different arrangements. After the premiere in Beeskow, the small cast (soprano, baritone, piano) will tour music schools and libraries between the Oder and Spree rivers. This is part of this year’s Frankfurt “Classics without Borders” programme.
INTERNATIONAL OPERA COURSE
Opera in the Barn
Created in just ten days, the traditional International Opera Course at Beeskow Castle presents its opera collage “Opera in the Barn”, at the Ragower Mühle (Ragower Mill). In a few deft steps, an ordinary barn is transformed into a mesmerising opera house. Considered an insider’s tip thanks to its scenic surroundings, visitors can expect the warmest of welcomes from the local hosts.
INTERNATIONAL OPERA COURSE
The festive opera gala of this year’s International Opera Course, accompanied by the Prussian Chamber Orchestra Prenzlau, will not only be performed at the traditional venues of Beeskow Castle and Neuzelle Monastery, but for the first time also in Bad Saarow on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the spa town. Thus the festival region now includes not only the Oder, Spree and Schlaube rivers, but also Lake Scharmützel!
RESUME OPERA PRODUCTION
The Triumph of Time and Truth
The Handel oratorio will be performed in the St. Mary’s churches of Beeskow, Frankfurt (Oder) and Fürstenwalde as well as in the parish churches of Müncheberg and Neuzelle. The planned performances in church halls close a circle by “bringing back” the work from the stage to the natural sacred home of the oratorio.
Chamber Opera Castle Rheinsberg
The Brandenburg Summer Concerts will bring the prize-winners of the Rheinsberg Castle International Chamber Opera Singing Competition to Storkow Castle. The Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (Oder) skilfully frames the sound of the young, international voices. A varied programme in operatic splendour can be experienced on the manor with arias from the opera and operetta repertoire. Date: 02.07. 7:30pm
“The Art of Singing”
Since 2014, the ART OF SINGING master class by Kirsten Schötteldreier (vocal coach) and Burkhard Fritz (tenor) has been held annually at Gut Eibenhof in Bad Saarow. They will be supported by a team of internationally renowned conductors and excellent pianists. Dates: 20.07. 4pm (Open Day) & 22.07. 6:30pm Gala Concert
