Born in Zwickau, Lars Franke has lived in Berlin since 2011 and works as a director at various venues.
He presented his first productions during his time in permanent positions at the Hanover State Opera and the Stuttgart State Opera. During his time as a freelance director, he was commissioned to stage productions at the Volkstheater Rostock, the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt, the Konzerttheater Bern and the Semperoper Dresden, among others.
Since 2013, Lars Franke has been a permanent member of the artistic management team at the International Opera Course Opera Oder Spree, and in 2019 became artistic director.
Teaching commitments have already taken him to the Vilnius Academy of Music and Theatre as a visiting professor. Since 2016, Lars Franke has been a regular lecturer at the Hamburg Theatre Academy.
Franke has been a professor of drama at Berlin’s University of the Arts (UDK) since 2022.
